Grey Slush is a local Midwest Indie band based out of Peoria. The group members are talented, musically-driven individualists who pair thoughtful lyrics with heartfelt melodies. This poster advertises the local release show for their EP titled “Out of Touch” which features songs that give the auditory sense of being spoken to through an old 1980s telephone. The acoustics feature warp petals, static, and reverb–creating a dazed, dream-like feeling. When asked about inspiration for their album title, the group shared their sentiments towards technology and newer forms of communication like social media–sometimes it feels like you’re talking on a phone, but no one answers back. Inspired by this liminal feeling in communication, this poster creates a twilight atmosphere that captures a transition into darkness. An old phone hangs by its wire, upside-down, as if it’s been dropped and is waiting to be put back to bed. Streams of bright, staticky sound come out of the receiver, as if the speaker on the other side is unaware that their conversationalist is gone; they are talking to the “void”. The title letters are not continuous but are connected by a soft glow that lazily moves to connect them back to the sound coming from the telephone as if they are tangibly floating away into nothingness. The sparkle in the first letter of the title marks the beginning of directional movement and supports the accenting dots around it. The supporting text mimics the same style of the display type, and their texture and glow further add cohesion. In the background, gradations create ripples that stem from the lower left corner to further call out the telephone as the main subject. Beside it, on the right, the information including date, location, and time are set on a darker background to contrast the telephone but emphasize it against the above information of the setlist.
