Aura is a mood tracker that allows the user to customize their mood’s color and shape. Most existing mood trackers available are very limited in descriptive aspects and entries-per-day. This app seeks to overcome these limiting factors by giving each unique user the ability to create and describe their moods in a personal way. This more abstract but inclusive approach creates better opportunities for the user to understand their feelings and emotions.

The name, Aura, is inspired by the invisible, spiritual energy surrounding living beings that is often visualized as a soft glow. The moods form as a circular aura before their shape is manipulated. As the user creates more entries for one day, the different colors are layered in decreasing size to create a circular gradient that allows the user to see all the noted emotions and moods from that day. The smooth shift in colors shows the individual linear changes and summarizes the day as a whole. The noting and reflections are primarily white to focus uninhibited attention on the moods color and shape while the meditation section is an inverse, dark gray to promote calmness and quietness. Using ProtoPie to create this prototype, I successfully explored creating a color picker, countdown timer, and drag-and-drop selection.
